| For today's special edition of the Free Music Ed Podcast, we interviewed Thomas Bonte. He is the CEO of MuseScore, the open source music notation software as well as the founder of wikifonia.org What an amazing interview! We were impressed with Bonte's musical and technological vision. Our conversation's included his background, the history and features of MuseScore, the revolution that is happening in the sheet music business, and the Open Golberg Variations. We are also premiering our new theme music, prepared by our previous guest, Dillon Phillips. |

Composers beware, Thomas Bonte and Werner Schweer are trying to make a name for themselves by giving away your work. Pianofiles members beware, just like the innocent people who were hurt by Napster, you are putting yourselves in real danger of being fined thousands of dollars and put in jail.

I think that the MuseScore Application and the Goldberg Variations have already made Bonte and Schweer a name.

Hey Stephen, 6/11/2013 03:01:12 am
We have repeatedly sent the same DMCA Notice to copyright@musescore.com and no action has been taken to remove the illegally posted scores that I have copyrighted and that are a source of income for me. The last notice was e-mailed (with a received notice returned as successfully delivered) 6/6/2013 at 14:04 Pacific.

And as a follow-up, PianoFiles ignores all DMCA Notices that we have sent. We follow the proper procedure and do not have this problem with other sites. These two websites have cost me losses in the tens of thousands of dollars and, in my opinion, do not sufficiently care about or act to protect the copyrights of artists such as myself. I would welcome a rapid change in their upholding of their user terms so that the good aspects of these sites may remain while the extremely negative ones will be terminated.

Unfortunately that statement is incorrect. The last notice sent was the 6/6/2013 notice. However, the same notice was sent to you and was delivered on 4/24/13 at 12:18 Pacific regarding the same score http://musescore.com/user/27842/scores/54041 that, since that date, has been viewed more than a thousand additional times. No action was taken by Musescore to remove the illegally posted material in April. 6/11/2013 04:19:25 am
Checking into it backlog, the musescore.com/user/27842/scores/54041 DMCA notice wasn't handled off well the first time. This has been taken care off now. We are going to put more resources on this to make sure this does not happen again. You can get directly in touch with me if you like to communicate further via thomas at musescore dot com.
